  3. VJKK VJKF A turban is not exclusive to Sikhi pahji. It is a very old tradition. Your motives for wearing dastar seems very sincere. I am also 'white a Sikh of Welsh ancestry. It really boils down to your motivations. I would never give up my dastar, it has been prescribed by Dhan Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. I really wouldnt worry about what Sangat thinks - they will be very very supportive trust me . You are more likely to get some comebacks from white people who may not be as educated about the purpose of Dastar and who you represent. You will become accustomed to this however and can even educate people about Sikhi and Sikh faith! I think it is very important that you give dastar the respect it deserves though. It is very sad to see people in dastar drinking or doing other beadbi! I will speak honestly now pahji I kept kesh for two years before wearing dastar too...But looking back I probably didnt chose the best path. Turban keeps the kesh tidy and clean and would have made more sense - because eventually ther inevitable happened. All the best with your journey pahji and please keep us posted of your journey into Sikhi

  4. Debating debating will lead to nothing but useless tensions. It is clearly mentioned in Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji that only that person recite his Name whom the God inpires. Yes the elders are responsible for the existing condition of our generation but when i see some sikhs following khalsa panth in a better way compared to their elders than only one thought comes to my mind. "Let the God or Lord inspire the one whom he wants to inspire to be with him".

  5. Sikhs are very welcoming. Honestly, Indian Sikhs will be fascinated to see a white American Sikh wearing a turban. Most of them probably go like" Look a white guy wearing a turban. AAMMMAZZING.. WOW!!!! He looks great." As Guru Sahib said, Consider all Human Race as One, Sikhs will not discriminate or look you down. They will probably look up to you to better their Sikhi. It takes immense courage and dedication to be a Sikh in America. There are many "white" sikhs in America. esp in New Mexico and California. Finally, what are your opinions on keeping kesh, but not wearing a turban? Turban is gift of Guruji and we wear it proudly as a crown. As Guru Sahib was king, we all are princes and princesses of Guru Sahib. It is important to wear a turban. There many different styles of turbans. You can pick the one which the one you feel comfortable with. Practice wearing it everyday and you will get better at tying it. I am sure people at Local Gurdwara would help you with this. In the beginning, you can start wearing a small keski, and slowly proceed to bigger turban. Dont worry, keep your head high and adorn yourself with gift of Guru Gobind Singh ji.

  11. Yes Guru Nanak Dev ji did lay down many rules which built up to the khalsa for example " one who calls himself a sikh of the Guru, shall rise in the morning (amrit vela) and meditate on the lords name!" Similarly Guru Nanak Dev ji also said that "in the end only the pure shall last (Khalsa) and shall sit on thrones" So basically my point simply is that nobody ever should divide the teachings of the Gurus because all the teachings link to each other with one motive behind them - the formation of the Khalsa! Bhul chuk maaf, im just a humble das, servant of Guru ji :smile2:

  14. haha thats true about a laraku women! but i think the typical desi bibi is more laraku than a singhi who fights for their religion and rights rather than "tu mere suit bareh ki keha ?(pushes her down the stairs)" :drop: i know a lot of amritdhari boys who very intellectual and intelligent and do far better than other boys because they're not too busy running around girls instead they keep abit of anakh (pride). And singhs are usually more well-built and realistic instead of some typical Pappu party boy :strong: but yeah always two sides to a coin! :biggrin2:

  15. Baba Aziz isn't Turkish. It's primarily Arabic with nods to Persian. I would agree however that it is the single most apt movie for Sikhs not only because of its sublime spirituality from a Sufi point of view but essentially when we watch it we see and feel Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji walking through those very same deserts during on his way to Baghdad and Mecca. The one other movie I would recommend for all Sikhs because of its profound deeper message is the Mongolian epic blockbuster 'Myna Bala'. It's story resonates so well with us Sikhs. Imagine for one moment Braveheart, but with a much higher budget, much more action, much better acting. The result is Myn Bala. A truly epic movie. Like us Sikhs the Minority were persecuted and so had to live in the forests with a price on their head. Like us Sikhs, they used that time to learn the art of warfare and become masters of the horse. They then emerged from the mountains and forests and not only took back their lands but became masters of their nation.

  16. 2nd-murder-of-punjab-in-30-years – 200,000 Missing 2014 WAKE-UP CALL: 2ND MURDER OF PUNJAB IN 30 YEARS - 200,000 MISSING DEATH CERTIFICATES & NOW A RIVER OF DRUGS? BABA RANJIT SINGH DHADRIANWALE SPEAKS THE FACTS. In the previous centuries when Sikhs were killed, at least mothers witnessed in front of their own eyes that their sons had become martyrs, but from the 1980's to the 1990's, around 200,000 sons of Punjab have not been seen by their mothers. There are so many mothers who until this day do not even know whether their sons are still alive or were murdered years ago. Villages upon villages have been wiped out, but not even death certificates were issued. At the recent Parmeshar Dwar May 2014 Sangrand Diwaan, Baba Ranjit Singh Khalsa Dhadrianwale has fearlessly stated the truths of the current Punjab and how it has come to its present embarrassing state of affairs where the one time flowing five rivers of Punjab have become dry, but, by a cunning scheme, a new sixth river is flooded with drugs and alcohol. The ingenious conspiracy will not kill the next generation youth of Punjab, but neither will it let them stay alive. They will finish Punjab and we will not even know about it. They have attacked the nation from the very roots. Baba Ranjit Singh discussed the statistics of the Sikh population by way of analysis and appealed to the estimated 50,000 plus Sikhs in attendance to proactively create awareness. They said regardless of whether a dog can make the assault to stop a thief from entering the house, it will nonetheless bark and make every effort to tell everyone there is an intruder approaching. In the same way, if we are truly the guardian dogs of the Guru Ghar, then even if we are not able to do anything, we should at least make enough noise to create awareness that we are under attack. Why have many of our organisations and leaders in Punjab suddenly gone quiet? Who has silenced them? Have they gone in the pockets of the agencies? In the olden times Sikhs would fight to take the first bullet in the name of the nation and now they are fighting for who can take control of the chair. Baba Ranjit Singh appealed to the thousands that even if a few of those present could make a concentrated, joint and genuine effort, then Punjab could again become what it once was. If we want Punjab to breathe again, then we will have to work hard, leave our comfort zones, we will have to tolerate the voices of the slanderers, we will have to eradicate greed and take out the fear of Governments from our minds. Each child must become a Parcharak. Punjabi's must wake up.

  18. How is that a joke? and how is that statement anti-sikh? Youth are told they're not sikh unless they have kesh. why should they even bother to make an effort to discover sikhi with the possibility of advancing and keeping kesh when they are sidelined right from the beginning? Cool Water made valid points. You post a question on an open forum, you get a response and then you critise rather than accept it as a differing opinion. lol another reason why youth cba with our people. our elders run the show, their opinion counts, everyone elses is just invalid.
