  1. AMRITSAR: Putting an end to a year-old controversy, the members of Sikh community and Radha Soami Sect jointly laid the foundation stone of gurdwara in village Waraich inside the premises of the sect's headquarters at Beas, 45 km from here. Radha Soami Sect chief Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon and Sikh hardliners, who were at loggerheads for allegedly demolishing the shrine by the Sect members last year, together laid the foundation stone for its reconstruction at the sect's headquarter premises. Sikh hardliners demanded rebuilding the shrine as it hurt the sentiments of their community."We are very much with Sikh community and never consider that we are separate from Sikhs. For us founder of Sikhism Baba Nanak is supreme," Dhillon told reporters here. Among prominent persons who were present at time of foundation stone laying ceremony included Dhillon, activists of SAD (Amritsar) Mann Harbir Singh Sandhu, Jarnail Singh Sakira, Imam Singh Mann, Sikh Hardliner preacher Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal, former MP Dhian Singh Mand, SGPC member Gurpeet Singh and Damdami Taksal Chief Bhai Mohkam Singh. Before laying the foundation stone an ardas (prayer) was performed as per Sikh rituals, sources said. Sikh hardliners spent few hours inside the Dera Baba Jaimal Singh with Dhillon and also took a round of the 3,000 acres Dera. After the ceremony they all paid obeisance at Golden temple here.Jathedar (head) Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh while issuing clean chit to Dera Radha Soami sect Beas had recently said that Radha Soami sect has not committed any blasphemous act at village Warraich by demolishing the shrine, since Guru Granth Sahib was not present there, as it was shifted before the Gurdwara was demolished. However, Sikh hardliners outfit were unhappy with the decision of Akal Takht and announced boycott of its Jathedar, demanding reconstruction of the shrine.Dera Radha Soami also known as Dera Baba Jaimal Singh in Beas town, nearly 45 kilometres from here, is being headed by Dhillon with several followers across the nation. http://punjabnewsline.com/news/Dera-Beas-chief_-Sikhs-lay-foundation-of-Waraich-gurdwara.html

  2. Typical BBC blurb, presenting inaccurate information to try and create some sensationalism and up their listening figures. They're research teams are so rubbish is unbelievable. Firstly they claim Sikh couples face threats and violence over mixed marriages.. Ermm how can it be a mixed marriage if its a Sikh couple ?? If they're both Sikh its not mixed is it hence no issue. Secondly the blurb calls people opposing mixed marriages hardliners ?? Factually incorrect again. Sikhs are not opposed to mixed marriages. But mixed marriages are forbidden in Gurdwaras as per Guru Gobind Singh Ji's 52 Hukams, and the Akal Takht Hukamnama and Rehit Maryada Sikh code of conduct which clearly states that only a Sikh bride and groom can have an Anand Karaj ceremony and be married in a Gurdwara. If a couple wants a mixed marriage they are free to have a civil marriage at a registry office but you can't bend the rules of a religion to suit yourself, if you can't respect the rules and regulations of Sikhi then don't have an Anand Karaj or be ready for your partner to take amrit and join the path first if theyre not willing to then sorry an Anand Karaj is not for you. The Gurdwaras should never have been carrying out mixed marriage ceremonies in the first place. Its a shame Gurdwara management commitees are ignorant and more bothered about income than upholding Sikhi principles. Sikh council UK should raise a complaint to the BBC or at least get a representative on at show to set the record straight. Sikhi just like any other religion has rules and regulations can two non Muslims get married INA mosque ?? Can nonchrisrians get married in a church ? no they can't. Sikhi is no different.

  3. Can this be confirmed that Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara has been moved from the Punjab to the Delhi Tihar Jail? Amritsar, Punjab (March 10, 2013): In a press statement sent to Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) the All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) President Karnail Singh Peermohammad has criticized Indian government for confining Sikh prisoner Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara in a jail cell where Kashmiri youth Afzal Guru was confined before execution. Afzal Guru was reportedly executed by India on February 09, 2013 outside his cell. Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara Peermohammad has maintained that Indian Government is attempting to mentally torture the Sikh political prisoners. He has cited a number of instances to prove that India is practising psychological techniques to weaken the will power of Sikh political prisoners. “Indian Government deliberately prevented doctors from removing a bullet from the back of Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh in order to keep under continued discomfort and pain. It was a form a torture on Bhai Satwant Singh” Peermohammad has maintained. “One day Bhai Satwant Singh was able to nail-out the bullet bearing immense pain and sufferings” he added. Peermohammd has further stated that: “Mistreatment and mental torture meted by Indian state to Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar has turned that intellectual personality into mental patient”. “AISSF strongly criticize the Indian government for mistreating Sikh political prisoners including Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu, Bhai Kulvir Singh Barapind, Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar and others” reads the statement. 5. maharaj kept me alone for a number of years and i became used to it. i found feelings of loneliness could be eased by attending divan daily. it helps a great deal in your spiritual life. perhaps you would be best off if you focused on building up your jeevan and doing some seva? this way the worry about meeting people could be lessened and you might meet friends through seva.

  6. any place in the lower mainland or abbotsford will not be too far from a decent gurdwara that follows basic maryada. abbotsford is probably the furthest east you can go in the fraser valley as mission's gurdwara is, from what i've heard, very very liberal. i don't see why you would want to llive in a small town as they lack in opportunities for youth and have smaller sangat (so less kamai).

  7. Gurafteh Ji, I searched through sikh forums online..I found the below. Four qualities as luckysingh veer mentioned above- sato, rajo, tamo and fourth one is main quality- which is turiya padh or avastha, four qualitie could also mean depending on the context of shabd, it could also mean char worldly padarath as gurbani discusses Char padarath, je ko mange Sadh jana ki, seva lage || Char padarth are known as: 1. Dharam - Discipline. Understanding of his or her duties i.e virtues(Ethics) 2. Arath - Assets. he or she has no shortage of money, precious metals, pearls etc & has obtained the desired wealth. 3. Kaam - Desire. His or her all desired gets fulfilled from marriage to children. 4. Moksh - Liberation. He or she attains emancipation. Hope this helps.

  8. One thing I would like to add is that people don't realize how ritualistic and karam kandi it is to have a mixed faith "Anand Karaj" in Guru Granth Sahib Jee's Presence. It's fake, it's all just a show. Why would someone bow down to Guru Granth Sahib Jee, when they don't even believe in Guru Sahib, they don't follow Guru Sahib and they don't have anything to do with Guru Sahib. They're not at the Gurdwara to seek Blessings from Guru Sahib, they're just there to fulfill a formality. They're there to please their spouse's side of the family. There is no "Anand". It's just a "karaj", and a karam kandi one at that. One thing we must not forget is that, how far can this kind of thinking go? 75%+ people who call themselves Sikhs, don't even follow the basic principles of Sikhism. Yet, just because they are "Punjabi", they get "Anand Karajs" done all the time without any complaints. Why is there a double standard where we are okay with these people getting married in Gurdwaras, yet people from other faiths can't? How far can we take this argument and how judgmental can we be and how judgmental do we have to be? Because I have seen people from mixed faiths having an "Anand Karaj", and the person from the other faith is very respectful, kind and considerate, and sometimes they actually do have genuine respect for Guru Sahib and Sikhi coming from their heart. Whereas on the other hand, I have seen people who are Punjabi but follow no Sikh principles (the typical come to Gurdwara twice a year ritualistically, etc), and they are very disrespectful and out of place during their time at the Gurdwara for "Anand Karaj". It's very hard to draw a line, because there is way too much gray area in this topic. It's NOT because Guru Sahib was unclear. Guru Sahib is very clear on everything. It's because Sikhism has been diluted by so-called Sikhs, and sadly it is the majority who don't even truly follow Sikhism. Very few (the minority), actually follow Sikhi as per Guru Sahib's Bachans and Hukamnamas. It's so fake when Punjabis who are clean-shaven let their beard grow for a week or two for the "Anand Karaj" (so that it looks nice with Pugree) and also let their hair grow for like a month so that they have more support with their Pugree. And a few hours after the "Anand Karaj", they shave and get a fresh haircut and go to the party and drink/eat meat/do drugs, etc. Also there is a new trend of not eating langar at the Gurdwara after "Anand Karaj". Instead, everyone goes to a restaurant or banquet hall and eat lunch there. I guess they're too sophisticated and high-up to be sitting in Guru's Pangat and eat Guru's Langar. On top of that, most Punjabi people insist on wearing Kalgis, even in Guru Granth Sahib Jee's Darbar they wear it until just before the "Anand Karaj" starts, then they take it off. Anand Karaj is not something to inflate someone's ego, it's to remove someone's ego. Punjabis just can't let go of their ego and modernism. If you want to see true Sikhism, true Gurmat principles...then look at the life of Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh Jee. There was a story that goes something like this: After a Raensbhai Keertan Smagam, everyone was tired and heading back home. While traveling or when reaching home, right away they were informed that there was an "Anand Karaj" taking place in a few hours and that they were invited. Despite what they had been through (little sleep, little eating, lots of travel), they got so happy hearing the news of the Anand Karaj and left immediately. When they got there, they found out that the people getting married did not follow rehit and were not Amritdhari and did not want to take Amrit. Bhai Sahib and his companions refused to do Keertan and and refused to attend the "Anand Karaj" and left right away to go back home. (If someone has the full version of the story, please post it, I tried finding it, but couldn't). NOW THAT'S REAL GURMAT AND REAL LOVE FOR SIKHI.....GURU'S SIKHI.....NOT OUR OWN MADE UP VERSION. ^ (Spelling mistakes, I know, please forgive me. These internet websites with Gurbani have many spelling mistakes, and it's hard to edit it, especially with this forum not accepting some Gurmukhi fonts)

  9. In Ilford we have an increase in Eastern European men attending the Gurdwara to eat Langar. This is where we have a bit of a communication breakdown as many of the Latvian, Luthianian and Polish men's English is not strong and many of the daytime elders, bibya and faujies English is also not strong which has lead to some heated situations. Perhaps we need some signs up in the Eastern European languages. Our main issue in Ilford Gurdwaras during the day is the small volume of drunken or stoned men coming in for langar. Although, the numbers are very small, it's often intimidating for the elders and women who are present in the Gurdwara during the day. The evening's and weekends are not an issue as there is more sangat to take care of the situation. There needs to be some form of light security in the Gurdwaras during the weekdays if nothing but just to diffuse any issues and handle the anti-social behaviour. Ultimately, when someone's out of their head, they will ignore all signs. Again this is where the security would be more beneficial. The Gurdwara is a public building and should always be open for all, however the safety of the sangat is also of importance so striking the balance is what is needed.

  10. Whether prostitutes... criminal... doppers.... etc... everyone can enter the Gurudwara.... Gurudwara is open for everyone.... but the thing is.... the people who take care of Gurudwara should know how to handle the situations... Let bad people enter Gurudwara... it might be possible that they will become gud 1 day :D One more thing... its not necessary that every sewadar in gurudwara is gud... n every criminal that enters Gurudwara is bad..... In India ... i have never seen people talking or being rude to strangers....

  11. I understand your point kalsingh but there should be other way around to deal with this issue. We all need to remember that it was the guru sahib jees open door policy that we had true gem like Bhagat puran Singh jee who adopted sikhi only because he was heartily felt 'jee aiyaan nuh' experience by Gurdwara during his tough time. I also know one couple who also got into sikhi by openness of Gurdwara sahib. One time our family akhand patt was going on in our local Gurdwara and I was devastated by looking at this very nice jatha based gurdwara rejecting (over and over) Spain based budget travelers who were enroute to Yosemite park and they even got rejected to sleep overnight outside of the building. Paranoid Management internal reply was that maybe this couple was sent by Indian govt. I was total shocked and took that couple to our home and they left early in the morning. They told us that they had a very nice experience of staying in gurdwaras all over in India and love our Sikhi concepts. I think what is needed is that busy Gurdwara should hire in-house security guard and have volunteers covering some shifts. However looking at the pay these managements give to ragi jathas, I think hiring security is a very distant dream.

  12. Ok guys now I know I said "nai magaj marda" but you guys are really loveable and true Gursikhs. That girl planned to play with me for a few days and ruin me. Then she would have discarded me like a bodi does to bad butter. But, but Waheguru was watching over me and guess what????? One of her companions told me all about it. Thank god for ur advice guys!!!!! Will never ignore it again. Screw love, love dharam like Baba Deep Singh. Not Sahiba who will always betray u.

  13. @ Gurpreet - Who said it was love? It could easily be lust. And what is love in this day and age? I think many people confuse what is actually a base, animal attraction to a person's external features as love --- I don't class that as love at all.
