  1. Bobby Friction, for all his previous faults and comments he has made, should in this regard be commended. I for one applaud him for taking this watershed moment in UK bhangra. Love him or loath him, he is a BBC Asian Network DJ with a degree of influence. If other radio DJ's follow his example, this could indeed be the start of something. http://www.chakdey.com/bobby-friction-challenges-bhangra-artists-by-refusing-to-play-their-music/ "I now challenge all other Radio/DJ's who play Asian & Desi music accross the world...Stop playing music that glorifies the caste system". "Bhangra, or the Bhangra scene will not die/fade out etc as some of you are saying...It will evolve". "To those who think Caste is OK or not responsible for hate or segregation then I say read the newspapers from India & do some research. To those who complain & say its gonna stop Bhangra being played I say you dont know Bhangra. 90% of Bhangra trax dont mention caste already" "I completely 100% stand by what I say.x From 31st August 2012 I will not play any tracks that mention caste on the FRICTION show."

  2. If your job requires you to work up to 12 in the morning then it is difficult to wake up for Amritvela. But why not try to do Nitnem at 12 and then go to sleep. Jobs that require a person to work long shifts past 8 hours is nurse and law enforcement; their regular shifts are 10 to 12 hours. If your working every day more than 8 hours, that must be one rich employer to give you overtime every work day.

  3. Im not Amritdhari but what you've done so far sounds like preparation to me. Keep rehat and follow maryada as if you've already taken Amrit, basically live as an Amritdhari would. See how that goes first then you'll be able to evaluate whether you're ready or not.

  4. Sangat ji, many of us do not know the previous life kamaai of Sant ji. Giani Pritam Singh ji of Damdami Taksal tells us about Sant ji's previous life. Bhai Maan Singh ji used be with Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji all his life and was present at 1699 khalsa panth sirjana divas and Chamkaur Jang. Bhai Maan Singh ji along with Bhai Dharam Singh ji and Bhai Daya Singh ji came behind Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji at Machiwara after leaving Chamkaur di garhi. After Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji went to SachKhand, Bhai Maan Singh ji went to Himalayas and did bhagti till the time of Sant Sundar Singh ji Bhindranwale. Sant Sundar Singh ji met them at a place which is at present in Uttarakhand and told them that they will leave the 5 elements body soon and again take birth to do seva for the panth. source : Gurmakh Prakash by Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale. forward to 56 min and 40 sec. 5. A very good move which should be followed by all Punjabi singers. This curse of casteism has to be removed and and any and every action towards this should be welcomed wholeheartedly.

  7. Sangat Ji, Last year I was a mona, meat-eating person but with the blessing of Vaheguru, I changed because of the shaheedi of the sahibzade. Now I've kept my kesh, had Santhiya of 7 Nitnem Banis by Taksali Singh, Santhiya of Sukhmani Sahib aswell and now starting SGGSJ Maharaj's Santhiya. A Singh that I know has just took Amrit which makes me feel left behind because am not doing anything to prepare for this amazing blessing. I don't feel ready but what are the steps to get me to the stage of "Yes, I want to give my Head to Guru Jee" (One of them is actually knowing the maryada which I need to do) but other things?

  8. I agree with MrDoaba paaji it sounds like your prep work is amazing. Do not rush into or feel pressured by anyone to take Amrit. Read and understand what Maharaj is trying to tell you everyday through hukamnaama and you'll know exactly when the time is right. Waheguru's kirpa brother!

  9. They make music that sells. Next time they put out a "Panthic Album" or "Folk Album" go out and buy it. If Panthic and Folk albums make more money, then they will stop making the gandh posted by OP.

  14. Okay Guys, i Found out About the Farla 1) A Farla can only be worn by a Nihang Singh that has done alot of Seva for the Khalsa Panth of their Dal e.g. Harianvela, Bidhichandye (Tarna Dal), 96 crore (Budha dal) Like 15 years of seva, or as Bhai Vadhbhag Singh Akali Does the asa di vaar paath ( Puratan 3 hours long) keertan and thats Y he got his Farla. Or Bhai Sukha Singh Akali got his Farla Because of his gyaan in Sri Dasam Granth (from my knowledge). 2) I think only Panjva Takht Budha dal can give people Farlas like theres a Farla ceremony and then i think they tell the maryada and tie it upon the Gursikh. 3) There is a Big Maryada for the farladhari Nihang Singh, as . Waking up early like 12Am . Reading all of the Tarna Dal Gutka Sahib or more Bani in the morning? . and should do alot of Seva as spreading the panth and to get people into sikhi This is all i know now Vaheguru ji Ka Khalsa! Vaheguru JI Ki Fateh! Akaaal!

  15. The problem is that Punjabi Sikhs in general look up to people with money. They don't care how they got the money, all that matters to them is that a family deserves respect because they are rich. This is not how I live my life and this is not how I shall bring my children up. I will remind my children that it is impossible for a man to serve 2 masters. He needs to make his mind up. Either his master is waheguru or it is money. It can not be both.

  16. Farlas were used traditionally to identify higher ranking "akali nihangs" over your standard nihangs. Farlas are earnt on merit after demonstarting valour in battle or doing so many years of seva in a Nihang Dal. It's a honour and status that has to be earnt as per traditional Nihang maryada you cannot wear a Farla unless you have earned it and been presented with it.

  17. Veer LuckySingh jeeo, please do not apologise, we are all trying to find the correct jugti (technique) of simran so we can get closer to AkaalPurakh. Daas agrees 100% with you that we must clear our minds of external thoughts when doing simran, bhai randhir singh jee mentions that during ishnaan at amritvela it is vital that we do path/simran and make sure our minds do not wonder, this way our minds will be more prepared to do simran. To clear the minds of external thoughts we have the ideal hathiyaars (weapons) of Gurbani and Gurmantar. From the moment we get up amritvela until we get ready for path/simran we must make sure our minds are not imbued in thoughts other than Naam and Baani. Daas does not agree with your statement on focusing on a "void". You mention on focusing on AkaalPurakh through focusing on a void first, this I do not agree with and is not sanctioned by Gurbani. Surely we must follow Gurbani which mentions focusing on the dhuni of Naam. What is greater than the dhuni of Naam! Naam is Wahiguru! Focusing on void is part of other mats such as Buddhism but not Gurmat as far as daas understands. I think when you say focus on "nothingness/void" you mean eliminating external thoughts in the mind which daas agrees with. The mind of the Gurmuh is never "empty/void", forever Naam and Baani resound in the Gurmukh mind because Naam and Baani are the moorat (form) of AkaalPurakh for Gurmukhs. By the way it is great to hear that a fellow Gurmukh is engaged in and has shaunk (interest) in japping Naam. Daas may have made many mistakes above, simran is an advanced subject and only advanced students can really do vichaar on this subject. May Guru Sahib Bless us with Naam Kamaee.

  20. i think only senior nihamgs and leaders of nihang groups have a farla. selected nihangs are chosen for the farla by the dal. its supposed to represent a nishan sahib on the dastars because beadbi occurs with normal flag nishan sahibs (dropping it etc.) the farla shows that the person is experienced and is good with shastars and knows lots of bani. apologies for my spellings. not the best typer with mobile touchscreens.

  21. Like humkire said, he should seek therapy. However, you want to know what you can do as a friend. It's the holiday season. There are homeless shelters and charities working for the less fortunate. You should both go and volunteer yourselves. Perhaps helping people less fortunate than him, will show him that God has not forsaken him.

  23. Osinghji, I agree with your post totally. I am not denying the method you mention and I do remember seeing the references and advice you mention. I really don't know what stage or level I'm at, but I don't think I'm advanced or anything. However, I do remember that I used to listen to the sound when I first started. I also remember having some difficulty in trying to move to the mental and silent manas stage. At that time I would also wonder if I was doing it correctly. Then all of a sudden I found that if I empty my mind completely and get rid of all the clutter and then bring the focus on just the ONE Akaal purakh, that I could go into mental simran stage much easier. -I'm not sure if this came with time and practice, but I somehow felt that I had been doing it wrong!!! -Like I say, I don't know if I had climbed up the simran ladder, but all of a sudden I felt that instead of focusing on the sound or vibration, I just had to focus on the 'nothingness' and be completely thoughtless. Then I would find I was doing deep, mental and silent simran. This was the reason that I advise others to focus on this nothingness,- I hope you understand as I'm not trying to go against what you say. Maybe this was something that came with time and that all the time I was listening and feeling my vibration, it was helping me to become thoughtless. - I'm not sure and I honestly can't answer that. I'm sorry if you felt that I was speaking against your principles as that was not my intention. I hope you understand why I felt that the secet is to clear and empty your mind and focus on nothingness, because now when I do that, then automatically all that is left is Akaal purakh because you can't clear his dhian from your mind! Now, I find it quite easy to go into deep mental and silent simran and I can usually do it within seconds! Usually I don't have to be audible for any longer than a minute, but at the same time I become thoughtless by focusing on the void of nothingness, this leaves me with just the one thought for the ONE. Somehow with intuiton, this all made sense to me because before creation there was just the ONE Waheguru and this void. So if you pay attention to the void, it soon transorms into ALL Him. It is kind of difficult to explain because when I look back, I can't understand why it was difficult to move on from the listening stage !! The only explanation I can come with is that I wasn't doing it properly or I wasn't trying to be thoughtless! I think that as Neo ji has stated it is about different stages.- although I have NEVER considered myself as moving up the ladder but simply as finding the right way through practice. It is ALL with his grace that we get on the right track, no matter which station or platform we join the train.

  25. I always thought the Bhatra stuff about eggs and meat in their langar halls were just made up stories, is it actually true ? There isnt any Bhatray or none that I have come accross in the Midlands , I hear there are lots up north leeds, bradford, manchester etc.. Anyway back on topic, that shop with the Khandas probbaly has noting to do with Bhataray whoever owns it should remove the Khanda emblems from the front off the shop, if they want to sell alcohol thats up to them..but they have no right to associate Sikhi logos with their actions.

  26. I think it should also be considered that we are living in the age of social media. I think this is what caused such outrage over the Delhi rape case. Yes we should demand justice for 84 but there is a time and place for everything. As N3O veer wrote, this is not a place to discuss such things when the girl is in intensive care. Just imagine how much pain she must be going through she was assaulted with a rod which caused damage to her intestines. These protests and movements aren't just for Hindu women, they are for women all over India. You really need to stop cussing there are sisters and young kids on this forum.

  27. Proactive veer ji, its not like these protesters have any choice at the first place to vote for party who are champions of human rights..now do they?..They got bjp and congress politicians both are scum of this earth, both have innocent blood on their hands. Congress have innocent sikhs blood on their hands, BJP have innocent muslims blood on their hands. Also, i think its imperative we wear shoes of victim who was raped and try to see the suitation from their eyes before posting. As i said there is a time and place for everything..its just my own conscience won't allow me to show people bigger picture at the expense of the victim/victim families or using her example to compare, atleast not at this moment while she is clinging to her life in Intensive Care Unit..!!!!!!!!!

  28. I dont think anyone actually believes that. A massive jump in logic that is and I cant believe you actually believe that Khalistanis are so perverse. This rape happened in India and had nothing to to with Khalistanis. Maybe that should be the point you should start off from. It really is weird that you came up with that comment after reading the article posted. For those who cant break it down the article reflects the following: A married woman in East Punjab was raped in a possible gang attack. She went to the Punjab Police who were reluctant to do anything. In a normal country the police investigate these accusations. In East Punjab the police do nothing. This is not the Khalistani's fault. If anything it is the fault of East Punjabis for putting up with a rubbish cop service that is meant to look out for them. The victim, shamed and dissillusioned, took her own life. The rapists are unlikely to be found and the Punjab Police are in full 'cover their backsides' mode. The political parties, jathas, nihangs and SGPC of East Punjab will pay lip service but nothing will be done. Indian Punjabis moan that NRIs dont invest in EP. This is a clear example of why not. If you cant even lock up the criminals and protect the victims then nobody can take Punjab seriously.

  29. My brother please go easy with the swearing! If you are indeed a "Singh" then I think you should know better and have more respect for your fellow brothers and sisters (especially the younger readers) on this forum. If you disagree with something written or feel that passionately about something posted then why not show the original poster the error of their ways by holding what they have said against the infallible litmus test that is Gurbani.

  30. Get your facts straight! I wrote that those protesters never protested when Sikh women were raped and Sikhs murdered in Delhi in 1984. They never protest when rapes ten times worst are committed in the slum areas of India. They are only protesting because one of their middle class girls have been raped and now they demand 'justice' and feel that the streets of Delhi are unsafe for them! They didn't feel the streets were unsafe when Sikhs had burning tyres placed around their necks.

  32. The above confirms where your dhian should be !! By doing some sukhmani and focusing on the dot is NOT gurmat. By putting all your focus in the paath or naam simran is the real focus. We get many distractions, visions, sounds, feelings of sensation over the body at different stages of simran/meditation. All of these should not let us take our main focus off the naam simran. I like to see them as distractions, because that is what they do. It is ALL too easy to lose your dhian off and away from waheguru when confronted with these and vibrations etc... I see them as 'tests' on your dhian from waheguru. The best way to acknowledge them is to just reassure yourself that you are doing naam simran correctly, because alot of the time people are unsure if they are doing it properly!
