  3. Ik Oangkaar Respectable Khalsa Jio, Waheguruji ka Khalsa Waheguruji ki Fateh. First of all, I pray to Lord Almighty, to bless the Panth with 'Chardi-Kalaa' (High spirits). All the young heirs to my 'Kaum' residing nationally or internationally! The 'sangharsh' (peace protests) done by you all, holding the 'Kesri nishaan' (saffron flag) in your hands, has brought worldwide attention towards the Khalsa Panth. The Kesri Nishaan everywhere brought a new passion into the sad atmosphere in the Khalsa Panth. Dear children, today I would like to request you all to return home (Sikhi Saroop). I know that you haven't gone far. You were let down by your leaders but were guarding your home from outside. Recently, you have proved that, by tying 'Kesri' turbans and holdng Kesri Nishaan during the protests. Dear children, our home is the most wonderful and unique of all. The foundation stone of our home was laid by Guru Naanak Dev Ji themselves; then Guru Angad Dev Ji, Guru Amar Daas Ji and Guru Raam Daas Ji had built the foundation and the walls with their own hands. Guru Arjan Dev ji had built the roof over our home by sitting on the 'Tatti Tavi' (hot iron plate). Guru Tegh Bahadur ji had then plastered the walls of our home by being beheaded at the Chandni Chowk in Delhi. Then Guru Gobind Singh Ji installed the Kesri Nishaan over our unprecedented and unique home by sacrificing his four Sahebzaadey. And then, Baba Deep Singh ji, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, Mai Bhago and millions of other Sikhs sacrificed themselves in the battlefield to build a fence around our home. The proud-to-be-a-sikh Sikhs, then made the garden of our home by being cut bone-by-bone, sown into halves, and by mothers who were made to wear a garland of body pieces of their own babies. The lovely scent of this garden has acquianted the world of its being. You tell me, my children! Will anyone want to leave this wonderful and unique home? Do accept my request and come home. While coming home, remember to bow your head only before the One Akaal Purakh, the One Sri Guru Granth Saheb ji and the Akaal Takhat Saheb; none else. Beware of the Saadhs, who are stuck in the 'daldal' (quicksand) of money and conspiracies, and only focus your life on Naam Japna (recite Lord's name), Kirt Karni (honest and truthful labour) and Wand Chhakna (sharing). Dear children! By wearing the Sikhi attire, live every aspect of your life in such a way, that the world bows before you and salutes you. Wake up at amritvela, recite the Guru's Name, create play-grounds in every village, do some exercise, eat healthily, consider the drugs as your enemies and chuck them away. Create such an atmosphere around you that the entire world becomes astounded. Our Makki di roti, Saron da saag and chaati di lassi are much tastier and healthier than the pizzas and burgers of the West. We will have to take pride in us being Sikhs at first; only then will the world be proud of us. Dear children! I pray to the Supreme Being that may you be the pride of this proud and unique home. Dear children! When I ask you to come home (sikhi saroop), I also have in mind, the ones who are already home. My only request to the family members who're at home is, that they should not treat this wonderful and unique home as a means of money-making, and rather leave it as the symbol of pride, honour and self-respect! Come on everyone! Let's all decide to come home on this auspicious occasion of Vaisakhi and follow the Guru. I congratulate the entire Khalsa panth on the occasion Vaisakhi. I will always be indebted to the love, that the youth residing nationally or overseas have given me. God bless. From: Balwant Singh Rajoana Cell no. 16, Central Jail, Patiala. Dated: 07/04/2012.

  4. What's the criteria to apply for SGPC seat? I asked this on another thread, i am afraid this question might be over looked so i m creating a new thread about it. Can veer like GPS or anyone else can help with this thread..that be great. Also whats the structure of SGPC? Are there board of members, if yes, how many? Do their voting counts when passing an policy or decision? How does gurmatta gets passed? - Does it go through SGPC approval process? does any of gurmatta even gets debated?

  5. Sangat Jee, I have been looking through some apps on my android tablet and phone etc which you can search Gurbani which claims to have indexed sources such as Amrit Keertan Pothi on it etc. However I have come across a particular shabad which has put some doubts on the internets authenticity. I'm going to use 1 particular shabad as an example and also understand it could just be an exceptional anomaly. The shabad is : Har Sachae Takth Rachhaeaa Sath Sangat Melaa I have an Amrit Keertan Pothi from around 40 years ago and this Pothi Sahib itself has been used by Puraatan Gursikhs. Now line 3 and 6 in the Pothi Sahib are as follows : 3 : Gur Simar Manaee Kalkaa Khandae Kee Velaa 6 : Gur Sangat Kenee Khalsaa Manumukhee Duhelaa however on other internet sources and the Amrit Keertan android app also searchgurbani.com it is different and possibly incorrect (I say this because this shabad is from Bhai Gurdas Jee's vaaran and could potentially have 2 different versions) 3: Gur Daas Manaee Kalkaa Khandae Kee Velaa 6 : Sangat Kenee Khalsaa Manumukhee Duhelaa Is there any learned Gursikh here who can clear my doubt and whether I should scrap using these apps etc and just stick to the Gutka Sahib? I use it for Keertan purposes and don't want to be reading the wrong shabad.

  6. Sangat jeo, I'm truly ashamed to admit it, this is beyond what I can type-how could it get that far... but here goes, I've jst come back from a party and you know what, the church next door was full of punjabi's, i could even see turbanned indians alongside many, many indian women. It was 9.0pm. It seemed full from what I could see. I've never seen this many people at a place of worship at this time! I stood there for a mere 3 minutes wondering why, before I was told to get to my destination. I'm not against anyone, not anyone who preaches God, end of the day-he's our saviour-whatever faith you look at. But I'm a sikh. I'm sure these people are from India-I'm shocked, they've travelled 6,000 miles to realise their 'faith' doesn't fulfill them. From my past research it appears as if they are, the christians that is, are actively seeking other breathren to join their faith. The women are drawn because I sense they can belong to something. Maybe they didn't understand sikhi-I dont know-but I'm scared as hell! 1. What led them this way? 2. Were they dumbfounded, were they converted? 3. Were they just fed up? PLEASE GIVE YOUR OPINIONS I know many punjabi churches now exist in places like Gurdaspur, Canada, UK, America, etc...

  8. Think about this......what message does Guru Gobind Singh Jee give us in Charitropakhyan? Is that Emotional Attachment is wrong. What you think is Love is actually Lust. Your body gets used up and time, effort, body, energy is wasted on doing Lustful acts. In the end you have to go through 8.4 Million life forms/janam. Singh'o if you want to Love someone then Love your Guru! Have a nice day :D

  9. I watched some of it and it was the show from India "EkNoor" this show is shown in Punjab and the host was asking the "christian father" to explain indepth everything to do with Easter? which was more like a church preaching lesson ... I was not impressed and switched channels. Then I watched Zee Punjabi which was running Easter christian promos with celebrating and remembering Christ. Is it me or is there a massive wave to convert Punjab away from Sikhi any-which-way possible or at least dilute it with other cultures. A Sikh faith channel should be just that SIKH.

  10. Listen man...your dhari is still going through a growing phase. It looks really strange, sticks out here, is longer in some parts than others, and you probably hate that. But a dhari is a beautiful thing. Why do you feel uncomfortable? Do people stare at you? Or do you just not like it for no reason? One thing I hate with a passion, however, are the British Sikhs who keep a turban but shave their dhari. It looks incredibly stupid, and is very disrespectful. If you are going to shave, cut your hair too, because just cutting the dhari makes you look 1. Stupid, and 2. Makes Sikhi look even worse, because you give people the impression of a double standard when it comes to kesh. If someone asks you, why do you wear a turban, and you say, "to cover our uncut hair" and the person asks "so you can cut your beard?" what do you say? Give your dhari some time. It will grow on you. (pun intended)

  13. WJKK WJKF What does this mean to you. should it be raised as it did at the times of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindrawale The Shiromani Akali Dal shall ever strive to achieve the following aims: 1. Propagation of Sikhism, its ethical values and code of conduct to combat atheism. 2. Preservation and keeping alive the concept of distinct and sovereign identity of the Panth and building up of appropriate condition in which the national sentiments and aspirations of the Sikh Panth will find full expression, satisfaction and facilities for growth. 3. Eradication of poverty and starvation through increased production and more equitable distribution of wealth and also the establishment of a just social order sans exploitation of any kind. 4. Vacation of discrimination on the basis of caste, creed or any other ground in keeping with basic principles of Sikhism. 5. Removal of disease and ill health, checking the use of intoxicants and provision of full facilities for the growth of physical well-being so as to prepare and enthuse the Sikh Nation for the national defense. For the achievement of the aforesaid purposes, the Shiromani Akali Dal owned it as its primary duty to inculcate among the Sikh religious fervour and a sense of pride in their great socio-spiritual heritage through the following measures: (a). Reiteration of the concept of unity of God, meditation on His Name, recitation of gurbani, inculcation of faith in the Holy Sikh Gurus as well as in Guru Granth Sahib Ji and other appropriate measures for such a purpose. (b). Grooming at the Sikh Missionary College the Sikh youth with inherent potential to become accomplished preachers, ragis, dhadis and poets so that the propagation of Sikhism, its tenets and traditions and its basic religious values could be taken up more effectively and vigorously. ©. Baptizing the Sikhs on a mass scale with particular emphasis on schools and colleges wherein the teachers as well as the taught shall be enthused through regular study circles. (d). Revival of the religious institution of dasvandh among the Sikhs. (e). Generating a feeling of respect for Sikh intellectuals including writers and preachers, who also would be enthused to improve upon their accomplishments. (f). Streamlining the administration of the gurdwaras by giving better training to their workers. Appropriate steps would also be taken to maintain gurdwara building in proper condition. The representatives of the party in the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee would be directed to pull their weight towards these ends. (g). Making suitable arrangements for error free publications of gurbani, promoting research in the ancient and modern Sikh history, translating holy gurbani into other languages and producing first-rate literature on Sikhism. (h). Taking appropriate measures for the enactment of an All India Gurdwaras Act with a view to improving the administration of the gurdwaras throughout the country and to reintegrate the traditional preaching sects of Sikhism like Udasis and Nirmalas, without in any way encroaching upon the properties of their maths. (i). Taking necessary steps to bring the Sikh gurdwaras all over the world under a single system of administration with a view to running them according to the basic Sikh forms and to pool their resources for the propagation of Sikhism on a wider and more impressive scale. (j). Striving to free access to all those holy Sikh shrines, including Nanakana Sahib, form which the Sikh Panth has been separated, for their pilgrimage and proper upkeep.

  14. Gurbani uses (amongst others) two very important words to describe God i.e agam and agochar. Agam means beyong physical reach/out of reach, and agochar means beyond comprehension/ understanding. Dawkin will probably like that! Dawkins like so many other western scholars such as Darwin, Hawkings etc have been propelled towards either atheism or a misbelief in God because of a)the hostility of Chriatianity and other Judaistic originating faiths towards the discoveries of science in regards to creation, b)the suggestion in these religions of creation being very limited, c) and as a result of that, the idea of God as been a limited God with a limited capability and capacity and d)the physical emphasis in these religions in their description of God. Sikhism takes away the pressure of a need to believe in God as a)a necessary precondition and, b) a the starting point in one's journey towards God by encouraging anyone who is sincerely and truly interested in God, religion and spirituality to a)start a course of investigation by becoming a student and learner i.e a Sikh and b) by shifting the emphasis to the exploration of truth and reality i.e Sat/Sach. This is of course more logical, sensible and interesting because it shifts the entire paradigm from the realm of beliefs and opinions to the realm of discovery and awakening to the existence and nature of God. Sikhism makes all this even more exciting by taking it to a higher level than what I have just explained by teaching that the pursuit of truth is not amorphous, elusive, subjective and out of hand but rather singular, objective, and starts from within. Even more beautiful is the teaching that the discovery of truth is not a mind boggling , complicated, strenous and difficult effort but rather that truth within is like a mirror that just needs to be bravely and humbly looked at, and surrendered to, for it to open like a flower blossom and be activated. And even more wonderful is the simple but profound teaching that all this happens effortlessly, by touching Gurprasad through becoming a student of SGGS. There is a white American lady just completing her PHD at Oxford University who I have adopted as my sister from quite a few years back. Prior to that she was mixed up in her beliefs, atheistic etc. But she started reading SGGS online dutifully line by line and this had totally transformed her. She has given up all her previous Buddhistic, Spiritualistic and New Age beliefs and started amrit vela simran, started attending satsangs etc. Now her life is beginning to revolve around Sat in all aspects of behaviour, lifestyle etc. As Sikhs we live as people of Sat or Truth, plain and simple.

  15. Please back it up where he said so.Unlike a few who have an agenda to defame august institution of akal takhat and thus playing into hands of enemies,Rajoana has immense respect for akal takhat and its jathedar.Jathedar sahib's role in the affairs of Bhai jaspal singh's martyrdom was very positive especially when he took a stand against political forces of the day by putting forward some demands and then getting those accepted.

  16. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh Mann or Badal? Well Badal has just won an election. It will be a while before Mann gets another go. So little bit irrelevant. We have to be careful of these political types trying to hijack this whole situation. Rajoana is the only leader we can see at the moment. Rajoana has said we will first free Akal Takht. If this is our goal, then it will only happen if we stick together. Problem with us is we keep pointing blames/fingers at each other. Rajoana knows everything we know. He is still showing respect to Jathedar Gurbachan Singh Ji. But we continue to cause friction and will cause splits. This is what our enemies want. The togetherness felt over the Rajoana issue has been great. It must be upheld. If we want to get into finger pointing and blaming the Jathedar or Sant Samaj or AKJ or Babbars or Nihangs or any other jathebandi or person then we must be ready for the abuse back and also accept that we are causing splits. Hence Dasam Granth issue gets raised. So surely it is better to work together. Look what was achieved by peaceful protests across the globe by the Panth. It is only possible because we all stuck together and for 2 weeks all forgot our differences. Badal or congress or indian government want us to argue and split. If we work together peacefully we can free Akal Takht. Sorry if I offended anyone.

  17. All know, vaishakhi nagar kirtans in Canada is around the corner..we have been soft target for media each and every vaishakhi nagar kirtan during last 4 years or so...does organizers of nagar kirtans have different ideas to tackle "media" guerrilla war journalism?. - Each and every vaishaki thousands of thousands of people (sikh, non sikh alike) get fed/free food (no question asked), thats ingrained in our sikh tradition. We saw everyone piratically. - We share our saint/soldier chivalry with non sikhs. - We pridely put our traditions infront of thousands of thousands canadians - We are considerate, pick up all the left over garbage behind and clean the streets. - We follow all the city by laws. I beleive sikh does not deserve to get targeted by negative media coverage if you look at whole program of vaishakhi nagar kirtan. Last year both in bc and toronto, all the floats were approved by RCMP themselves, still we got targeted by negative coverage. I believe there is only one solution to all these problem, we need public relations department or organization/jatha abroad assigned by "sri akaal takth" (vatican)themselves. SGPC have huge annual revenue, they need to have huge media influence in india and abroad. Anyone have more ideas?

  18. I get how there are differentiating opinions of Arthi but this isnt Sikh there is No spiritual gains in throwing flowers or holds a fire/joth if people read Arthi they would see that it was written after he has obtained NAAM and was in Ustat (Praise) so what has this got to do with any physical ritual, as for Modern Nihang singhs there trying to do their best to uphold Guru Gobinds martial traditions, but are going at it from the wrong way around. I’ll put a few statements out there for people and they can make their own minds up about it. Do you believe Guru Nanak brought the message of God and was able to come and go from this material world and spiritual world freely? Do you believe the message from Sat Guru is to be freed from the Grip of Kaam Kroad Loub Mou Hankar, which are the sole reason of Rebirth and Sin? Do you believe the mind is Jooth Saroop (light form) and can travel back to Gods Land where you can meet and speak with gurus and prataan Gur Sikhs? If the answer is no to any of these, but still believe in the traditions of Guru gobind singh then you’re not classified as Sikh. If it’s Yes then our duty is not use our own Mat (understanding) on Divinity but to surrender ourselves to Sat Guru and follow the path which Guru feels fit for us.

  19. Wouldn't it be nice if somebody invented some really low profile earphones that slid up through the side of your turban to rest in your ears? Some that were actually fixed to the end of a Sylaee (needle), or had a long fixed neck rather than just floppy wire. This way you could actually slide them up the side of your turban without having to get your thumb and fore finger up to your ear too and spoiling your turban's neatness in the process. This would make listening to keertan much more accessible and appealing for Sikhs on public transport. I don't suppose if anybody's come across any earphones that already happen to fill this criteria?
