  3. Waheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Jee Ke Fateh! Daas is co-president at Kings College London University Sikh Society and with a group of students we have started a new project called 'Sikhi Explored', where we research and write about Sikh historic events. We design the newsletters ourselves and reference all our sources. All the writing is original and we refrain from copy and pasting from websites. The aim is to produce articles that are interesting for Sikh students/ youth to read and give them a basic understanding of key ithiaas. We read different aritcles, books and listen to katha to make sure the history is as accurate as possible. We give a basic summary to make sure that students and Sikh Youth are not put off by the length of the articles. So far we have produced 5 articles on; Shaheedi of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Jee, Birthday of Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh, Battle of Chamkaur Sahib, Shaheedi of Chotte Sahibzade and finally Guru Gobind Singh Jee and His beautiful Gurbani. We have a dedicated site www.kclsikhsoc.wordpress.com, which is used to publish the work and I humbly ask if you can look through the articles which we have written and perhaps share them with Sikh Youth/ Students Please let me know if any student would like to support this in any way. I would also like to say that we are happy to take off any logos, as we are not looking to promote the name of KCL Sikh Soc, but only want Sikh Youth to learn about our beautiful and rich history. Forgive me in advance if we have made any mistakes. Gurfateh! You can email us at sikh.soc@kcl.ac.uk

  4. Veerji/bhenji please forgive me if I misunderstood. You said that "educated Sikhs were spreading misinformation" Sachseeker said that no matter where u sit your back is towards God. I thought for some reason you were disagreeing with this, I'm very sorry that I had misread. Also, Beginner, did I say that Mecca was greater? Guru Nanak Ji used Mecca to support his claim, not me.

  5. To make little bit clear about conditions in Punjab: Education: They are not educated neither they are bit interested in getting proper education. More than 60 to 70% of basic Engineering admission seats stays vacant because nobody secure good marks in the entrance exams in punjab. Farming: None of our generation wanted to do same work that our grandfathers did. whether you call it lazy or egoistic generation but it is certainly their fault not to progress ahead. Suicides: They go beyond their income in order to prove that they are capable of living good lifestyle. Due to lack of education they become victim of loan sharks. This all comes to education !!! Foreign student visa is bogus and way for punjabi youth to run away from responsibilities in punjab. However later on they bit the reality when they realize that abroad is nothing like what they see in those bollywood movies. If they really care about education then there are many fine institutions in india which are far better and waaaay cheaper than universities abroad.

  6. I wouldn't say they were 'interviewed'. It's been more of a very uncomfortable forced imprisonment type interrogation. Force fed into singing the praises of Sikh Channel. Even the dear old mothers from Punjab are put on air via the telephone..forced to sing the praises of the Sikh Channel. In fact....every sentence from every speaker includes the statement "Sikh Channel have done brilliant". "Its all thanks to the Sikh Channel". Even the questions to the homeless are...more often than not..structured around the following formula : "Are you gratefull to the Sikh Channel for helping you ? "......"would you no agree that the Sikh Channel is fantastic for helping you". Honestly, I find this self promotion....self congratulating...quite nauseating. I thought the whole point of seva was supposed to be selfless seva. These young fellas are human beings. The way they're being paraded around and forced to attend interviews and answer difficult questions on air as a condition for receiving 'help' is nothing short of disgusting. This is not seva. This is blatant exploitation of vulnerable folk.

  7. I don't agree with some of their reasons for coming over. There seems to be this inaccurate impression of how Britain is all "bright lights and streets paved with gold", even when they've been told life is not really like that. HOWEVER the fact is that they ARE here and as the poster above says, Gurudwaras have a responsibility to help these people. For if our Sikh institutions do not help Sikhs in their time of need then who else will? It can be argued that these people have brought it upon themselves due to not having work lined up, etc., but you would have to be a pretty cold-hearted individual to lecture these guys when they're freezing cold and hungry.

  8. Wjkk Wjkf veerjeo, This is sadly the biggest problem every man of faith faces, and will keep facing. Playing with semantics comes easy to nindaks and they exploit it to their best. Just a little tip tho: In a formal debate, do not let anyone take one of two tukks out of a shabad in an attempt to distort the meanings. A couple of common examples are: Nacchan Kuddan Mann Ka Chao and Eh Bhe Daate Teri Daatar If you read the complete shabad, you will immediately know they are being used to push totally different mentalities. So, complete shabads please, no snippets. This unfortunately happens in every religion, be it Islam, Christianity, even Hinduism. The best way to refute is, instead of engaging with arguments with such nindaks, do few write ups and distribute them around in their circles. Dont end up in tu-tu mai-mai, name calling, etc., that is their ultimate goal, dont fall into that stupid trap. Oh, and can i just add - There are absolutely no contradictions in Sri Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. The bani is written for men/women of different avasthas. Things that dont make sense now will become clear only when inner awkening happens. Thanks, Gurfateh

  18. Today, upon a bus, I saw a girl with golden hair. and wished I was as fair. When suddenly she rose to leave, I saw her hobble down the aisle. She had one leg and wore a crutch. But as she passed, a smile. Hey Waheguruji, forgive me when I whine. I have 2 legs, the world is mine. I stopped to buy some candy. The lad who sold it had such charm. I talked with him, he seemed so glad. If I were late, it'd do no harm. And as I left, he said to me, "I thank you, you've been so kind. It's nice to talk with folks like you. You see," he said, "I'm blind." Hey Waheguruji, forgive me when I whine. I have 2 eyes, the world is mine. Later while walking down the street, I saw a child with eyes of blue. He stood and watched the others play. He did not know what to do. I stopped a moment and then I said, "Why don't you join the others, dear?" He looked ahead without a word. And then I knew, he couldn't hear. Hey Waheguruji, forgive me when I whine. I have 2 ears, the world is mine. With feet to take me where I'd go. With eyes to see the sunset's glow. With ears to hear what I'd know. Hey Waheguruji, forgive me when I whine. I've been blessed indeed, the world is mine

(some of the letters seemed to have accidently moved their place in the end, so i tried to correct it in the translitteration, not totally sure though) But seriously, it's not that difficult to read Gurmukhi! (think about what Chinese and Japanese people have to go through) Next time check the letters from somewhere, even if you had to check them again and again. You'll be fluent soon. That's how i learned it too. :TH:

In morning people usually say: ਚਾਰ ਪਿਹਰ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਬਤੀਤ ਹੋਇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਚਾਰ ਪਿਹਰ ਦਿਨ ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਦਿਆ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਦੇ ਲ ਬਤੀਤ ਹੋਵੈ | "The four Pehars (12 hours) of night have passed with peace, with your blessings may the four Pehars (12 hours) of day pass with peace and obeying your Hukam."
