Why are Deras succeeding so much? 1 2

Why are Deras seeing so much success in Punjab? My family particularly has been going to a small dera for generations and having recently gone back to Punjab, I've seen so much anti-gurmat things at these kind of places. I especially noticed that the Radha Soami dera leader has immense influence in the Doaba region. I see his photo in every other house/shop. Is there rise in power correlated to Sikhi getting weaker? Are there any ways to combat Deras in a non-Taliban approach? Lol. Is there a way to make the people understand and critically think why their supporting these Deras rather than going towards Sikhi? I've personally tried to point out the anti-gurmat ways of th…

Hi, Can you name your children after Gurus. For example, if you name a child Arjun, would that be ok? How would you feel if someone names their child Nanak for example? Would that be offensive?

Parent's are setting me back in my Sikhi 1 2

From a young age I was always active within my Gurdwara commuity, and with Maharaj's kirpa and my Mahapurakh's help, I have been able to retain that and also become Amritdhari. After I became amritdhari, I developed immense love for Maharaj, which my parents were unfamiliar with, and it seems as if whenever I want do to something Sikhi-related, they become reluctant and say 'focus on your exams'. Due to me having GCSE's coming up, I wanted to do a formal ardaas to Maharaj with a granthi and I asked my mom,(after doing around 2 hours of revision), if I could go, She went "whats an ardaas going to do for you, stop with all this nonsense and do revision". Sangat Ji, I need s…

WJKK WJKF I'm going to be talking about a very sensitive topic so please bear with me, I don't think there's anyone else that I can talk to about this issue. So I met a girl a few months ago and we became best friends, and soon enough we realized that we are both in love with each other and want to get married, which is great. However, the issue is the mistake(s) she has made in her past. She had a boyfriend with whom she was in a living relationship with, although she's living in a foreign country, she belongs to strict Sikh family from India, so she hasn't told anyone else about her previous relationship except me. She cries sometimes because of her mistakes and also …

Hello everyone, I need some advice from everyone on here, to let me know what is right and what is wrong. So, I have been raised in a Sikh family and for a few years (i am 19, wear turban and has a beard, if that matters) now my aspect/views on religion have changed as i have read about the subject and through life experiences. I am very critical of religion and i believe it largely divides human beings from one another, although i still do believe in god but not the concept of religion itself. To me, religion causes complexities between human beings and love. I am a true believer of love, that god resides in every human beings heart and by loving every human being (no …

In Afghanistan there used to be prominent Sikh and Hindu communities living along side the Muslim majority. As time went on things got worse. Taliban took over and Hindus and Sikhs were forced to wear yellow arm bands to identify themselves, similar to Jews in Germany! Me and my Hindu and Sikh relatives now live in Southall. Here we have a Afghan Gurdwara and Mandir. Our history shouldn’t be forgotten and you will find this interesting.

Gurfateh jio Basically I am an amritdhari singh at uni. Long story short my problem is i get too many muslim girls acting really disgustingly towards me (kaam way) it makes me furious. I'm visibly religious (uncut dhari and dumalla, yet they are so disrespectful that they cant think to leave a religious person from another faith alone. Its sickening. It makes me even agrier thinking that they are probably doing similar things to people who are not strong in sikhi and also it has illustrated to me how bad the problem of muslim boys trying to corrupt sikh girls is. Its so bad for me I can't imagine how bad it is for girls. I need help, what can I do to make these people s…

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Hi, I'm writing here to get the sangat's opinion on a certain matter that's been troubling me a lot and it's affecting my studies and everything. So there's a Sant Ji who is close to my family and we've known him for a long time..probably for around 15 years because my parents and I took amrit from him. I have always respected him to the max and I still respect him now and will continue to in the future. He's really done a lot for sikhi and is well known everywhere. I know he's a Sant and the real deal and when I say that I mean I've seen him do things no ordinary man would even dream of in the spiritual sense and obviously …
