Bibek rehit vs Gurus teaching
by Guest whyudodis- 7 replies

Hi all I had a question for all of you who follow strict bibek rehit. It makes no sense to me at all. Bibek from what I understand should be not to eat jootah food, or food made from bad people. This is understandable and I respect that. However I know so many AKJ Amritdharis that simply will not eat food at random Gurdwaras, and from other Amritdharis (including their own mothers!!) who are not part of the AKJ. To me this is just cultish behavior and screams of blind practices which make no sense with the teaching of the Gurus. For example... Guru Gobind Singh employed Gangu, a Brahman who served as a chef in the Guru's Kitchen. This chef made food for his OWN childre…

I wonder what the maryada is regarding keeping Guru Sahib at home as a couple and as a family with children. Do we do abide with the same mannerisms as we do in the Gurdwara?

I'm inlove with this guy and I don't know what to do. We both used to be close last year. He hugged me everyday and we used to sit in sangat together like everyday. We did Charan dhoor together too. He told me that I was the best sister ever. I used to think of him as a brother but my feelings changed and I never told him. He made me so happy. Then one day he stopped talking to me I became invisible and I didn't exist for him anymore. I didn't know why and I still don't know why. I became very upset and it took me awhile to put myself together. Recently I started thinking about him and I miss the old days. I sent him a msg telling him how I feel. His exact words were If u…

WJKK WJKF Sangat ji, I am planning to travel to New York for the first time and feeling quite anxious about airport security as I am a kesadhari Sikh who wears a dastar. Would anyone be kind enough to offer any advice? What should I expect in terms of security procedures etc? Is there anything I can do to avoid the security staff from touching my dastar? Thanks in advance WJKK WJKF

New to Sikhi 1 2

Greetings to all: I am far from a Gurdwara, and I'm not sure how to remedy this just yet. Perhaps linking up with the local Sikh Student Association, may prove the most useful... While that is working it itself, I would like to become familiar with Sikhi. I have started reading from Sir Guru Granth Sahib, the daily Hukum, reading about the Gurus, small doses of the Rehat Maryada, bits of brief history of Punjab, and the controversy of 3HO within Sikhism, etc. Naam jaap/simran have made a regular appearance within my daily routine as well, a happy addition to the day. I come from an Islamic-Orthodox Christian background. Such devotional acts (reading, praying, apply…
