Amritdhari Marriages
by Guest harminderkaur- 2 replies

I am going to be taking amrit soon and when I told my family, they had objections on the basis of how they will find a good amritdhari boy for me. That was the only reason some of them objected and I instantly replied if someone didn't want to marry me because I was amritdhari then its better I not marry. Though I did tell them off it upset me a great deal. But that is not the reason I am making this topic. I made this topic to point out two things to girls like me whose families object on the basis marriage. 1. Ask them to look at sites like these where there are mulitude of topics dedicated to guys being unable to find girls because they are gursikhs. Its not the la…

Turn to Sikhism to blend in Ludhiana, December 15 Bridging the cultural divide, a large number of migrants from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have not only made the city their permanent home but some have also converted to the Sikh faith, embracing its tenets wholeheartedly. Gainda Lal, who changed his name to Avtar Singh at the Singh Sabha gurdwara in Jwaddi eight years ago, said life has become “much smoother” after his conversion. “I decided to become a ‘Gursikh’ after I started going to the Prabhu Sadan Kender of the Singh Sabha gurdwara. It was a pleasure for me to keep ‘kesh’, ‘kanghi’, ‘kara’, ‘kirpan’ and ‘kachera; like every other ‘Gursikh’”, he added. Originall…

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/london/8412741.stm CPS are reviewing the death of Blair Peach in the April 1979 Southall Protest against the National Front. Blair Peach, a teacher from East London, was found beaten to death on Beachcroft Avenue towards Southall Town Hall. It has never been evident if the Police or the National Front Siknheads beat him to death. For those of you niave “Sikhs” keen to smooch the backsides of the BNP, you may want to catch up with your fathers and grandfathers, many of whom were present on that day in Southall to stand up against the National Front. The racist National Front decided to hold an election meeting in Southall. The F…

Everywhere I see nowadays, as i read thread after thread whether its about anti dasam granth/noormelias/sarnas/sikh radio n tv channels or other current panthic issues is hatred, anger, each person/party involved believing they have the right answer whilst finger pointing at the others, and accusing the others as traitors and sell outs , and questioning their motives and real intentions. I have not seen in all my life so much disunity among sikhs as i see now. Everybody is upset with everybody else. As i go through topics and threads on this forum, I sense despair, tension, unease, discomfort, instability, and self righteousness. Everyone is blaming everyone else for e…

I wrote to my school (I'm in sixthform) seeking a clarifcation on their policy on the Kirpan. However many white students raised concerns for their own safety and said parents would object to it. The headmaster said he will discuss it with me next week but i am suprised that the law is: 4 Governing bodies of all schools and, in the case of county and controlled schools, LEAs, have responsibilities under health and safety legislation to ensure the welfare of those within schools. It is for them to decide whether to allow Sikh children to wear a kirpan in schools. They will need to be able to satisfy themselves that the kirpan does not present a health and safety risk eith…
