One of our favourite members..... "Surrey Singh" - Bhupinder Singh is getting married this upcoming Saturday, in SURREY, BC. And on his behalf, (and sort of with his permission) this is an invitation to anybody and everybody to show up. There's 2 events that everyone is invited too. First, a keertan this upcoming Thursday evening at Gurdvara Amrit Parkash at 123A St. and 80th Ave. And then, the actual wedding itself of course. Which is at Gurdvara Singh Sabha on 132nd St. Besides these 2 events, the other major event going on this coming week is the annual December Akhand Keertan Samagam at Khalsa School, which runs all weekly long from TONIGHT to the rainsbhaee this…

Hi guys, From what I understand, Baba Deep Singh was more then just an avid warrior, but was actually very intellectual and a scholarly man. He was fluent in both Farsi and Arabic, now besides all this, I understand that he had written a version of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib in one of those 2 languages for Sikhs in the Middle East, is there an existing copy remaining? Also, I read about how the Gurdwara in Iraq was not allowed to have langar because of the Iraqi regime, hope that changes.

EXPLAINING WHAT THE KIRPAN IS TO A NON-SIKH by Manvir Singh Khalsa WHAT IS A KIRPAN (pronounced Kir-paan)? It is a small sword held by a material strap which goes across the body. It is not an offensive weapon but a protective tool Kirpan means ‘hand of kindness/mercy’, which highlights how the Kirpan is not to be used to attack anyone but merely to defend oneself or another as a last resort. WHO CARRIES A KIRPAN? Initiated Sikh men and women, irrespective of age. WHY CARRY A KIRPAN? It is part of the Sikh uniform which consists of 5 articles: 1. Kes: uncut hair (tied up and the head and crowned with a turban) - The Kes is an identity of a Sikh and also h…

Fateh, A couple of us were talking about digitally animated movies and if we can use this to help teach our youth of today about our Guru's. We know that no one person is allowed to play the part of ne of our Guru Sahibs however, would it be wrong to create a digitally animated person in the form of our Guru's? This topic came up after we went to watch one of the documentaries on the chote sahibzade, and we realized that none of the younger kids could follow what was happening. Again the question is would it be wrong to create our Guru ji's or the 4 Sahibzade or 5 pyare as digital images (characters), as presently they use pictures instead..... Thanks for your help s…

Just wondered why we celebrate Lohri? There was katha at the gurdwara yesterday in which the Gyani said that we celebrate Lohri because of the defeat of the mahan Gursikh Bhagat Prahlad's Bhooaa (aunt), who was called Holika and the fact that Prahlad was saved. Someone else I spoke to, told me that this is not the reason why Lohri is celebrated but this marks the festival of Holi. Fateh

VJKK VJKF A question... As Sikhs, we shouldnt consume alcohol as it is an intoxicant right... however, is it the effects of alcohol that is bad for you or alochol full stop? The reason why i ask this is that, i heard somewhere in the past, there were people who had so much control over their mind, that they were able to remain 100% sober even after consuming loads of alcohol. I found this quite amazing. The question maybe still confusing but basically, if one was able to consume alcohol and remained unaffected by it, would it be allowed? Of course i know that myself (who i can only speak for) is not at that level n probably never will be! Im probably talking about a…
