I recentley obtained a gutka of Chandi Di // from India and also an english translation off the internet. To the best of my knowledge it seems to be a story of how Shivas wife transforms into 2 goddesses a beautiful one and a grotesque one which fights the evil demons. Yet when a few older women and men in my family & community found out they were shocked They warned me not to try to read this prayer as it can make people go mad , or get very and uncontrolably angry :D and many other things including Chandi manifesting herself and requiring a sacrifice etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can someone please help me with this cuz Im confused, I must …

WJKK WJKF I have question regarding importance of Dussehra in Sikhism. I read about it in source http://www.manglacharan.com/2010/10/dusshera-gurbilas-patshahi-10.html . It seems to me Brahminical practice. There are some other such condemned practices like Shraadh, Hom or Havan etc. Can anyone put some light over it. Will be very grateful Thankyou Amanpreet Singh

Ok, first of all, don't take this thread too seriously.. I'm just wondering if Kaurs can wear skirts (i don't mean miniskirts but something of an appropriate length) or dresses. The only times i've seen sikh women wearing skirt (or lengha or whatever) is in some wedding pictures. Is there some unspoken rule that prohibits wearing skirts? And that we should only wear pants? Would wearing a skirt be seen as something un-sikh? Is there some history behind it? I was thinking that it might partly be because Kaurs are supposed to be warriors and it would be difficult to fight and ride a horse in a skirt. I've also heard at least sarees being clearly condemned because it's a…

"Located in the centre of the forehead and the pituitary gland, the Brow Chakra or Third Eye is related to the ability to see both physically and psychically. It is the seat of our intuition and inner wisdom and when balanced allows us access to ‘the bigger picture’ of our lives. Inner vision is therefore connected to this chakra." I dont understand why i have pain in the exact place only , like i dont have a full out headache, just right dot on that spot between my eyebrows,,,, maybe sitting on computer too long, oversleeping, over using my intuition, or maybe my third eye hurts becuz im not folowing my destiny fully, or theres sum type of blockage, any ideas as to …

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Can anyone tell me the reasons why we cremate? Even though cremating to me makes sense because the body then wont rot and the body just will turn to dust instead of slowly decaying and being eat by the undergrowth spiders and insects. As our image is important to us n that wouldnt be right slowly rotting. Also because were not allowed to worship graves- as if we had graves Sikhs maybe could of started worshipping them. Also if im correct that a disiple of Guru Nanak (i think) was dying n he said to Guru Nanak you do what ever with my body. N Guru Nanak cremated it. N if this is true can someone confirm it by giving me the who…

Benti in the charan of Admin. Could this post be pinned. Many thanks. Vairag Shatak Raja Bharthari lived in Ujjain Nagar around two and a half thousand years ago. He was born in a high kul {lineage} who was a vidhwan pandit {scholar}. He was fair and just towards all his subjects and as such was much loved by all the parja {citizens}. His father’s name has been recorded in Rajavali as Raja Gandarbh Sann but mother’s name has been omitted and it is written that he was in fact born to a dasi {servant girl}. The raja had been married three or four times already but when he heard the kirti {praises} of a mahan sundar rajkumari {very beautiful princess}, he married her too.…

Have been wondering this for a while. I have decided to stop using conditioner and use oil instead, plus many Gursikhs also give importance to applying oil to the scalp and hair. So the question is, what's the cheapest....ermmm....best oil? My mum uses this green coloured oil called "amla", I think. I didn't like the smell, and it also stained my white dastaar :D Baby oil is cheap, but it doesn't give the smoothness I want. any suggestions? also, are we meant to oil the beard?

Gurfateh! I always get requests and messages to post more pictures of Nihangs - I thought people would get bored of them but it seems people can't get enough of them. Here is a collection of pictures - I got a little carried away, so this is a HUGE post - I have posted thumbnails because there are so many pictures, so apologies for the 'stupid' advertisements that appear alongside the picture when you click on the thumbnails. Enjoy the pictures ! (like I said before I got a little carried away - I never know when to stop !) Taken from Tapoban.org The foundation for Gursikhi jeevan is a strong amrit vela. If we have a good amrit vela and our minds get the proper start, the rest of the day will go well guaranteed.Baba Naranjan Singh jee, Shiromani Kathakar of Patiala used to say: "According to the Shastras, the person who gets up before 3am and takes a bath for meditation has given, in charity, a donation equivalent to one 'maund' of gold for such a noble act. A person who gets up between 3am to 4am and takes a bath for meditation has given in charity, a donation equivalent to one 'maund' of silver. A person who gets up between 4am to 5am and takes a bath for meditation has given in charit…

Found this good article clearing up many misconceptions. sikhanswers.com http://www.sikhanswe...-view-on-aarti/ From Sanskrit Aarti, meaning the light or the vessel containing it which is waved before an idol, generally in the clockwise direction, accompanied by the chanting of mantras. This is also the name given the ceremony, which for the Hindus is a mode of ritual worship to propitiate the deity. In the Sikh system, which totally rejects image-worship, there is no permission for this form of worship. Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Jagannath Puri Mandir.According to the Janam Sakhis, Guru Nanak Dev Ji accompanied by Bhai Mardana Ji, stopped near the temple of Jaga…
