I was just wondering what people think about the Rehat Maryada? I have been reading about it and have discovered that it was written after the Guru's were around - in fact the first part was written 10 years after Guru Gobind Singh Ji had died. It also contradicts one of the main teachings of Sikhi - the equality of man and woman - one of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's main teachings. Should Sikhs be following this code of conduct which has been written by lesser authority? Who gives anyone the right to write a code of conduct - e.g. could we just get together and make one? Would really appreciate peoples views on this because it has caused confusion for me! Thanks Rav

I was just thinking about what the percentages of Sikhs who use Singh and Kaur in their surnames and how this differs within the various Sikh communities. ie I Have noticed that The Bhatra Sikh community in particular nearly always ie in 99% of cases have Singh or Kaur as their official surname. You will rarely see that they keep any other surnames. But Ive noticed That the Jatt community nearly always have their family names and never have Singh or Kaur as their last name. They will not even have Singh or Kaur as a middle name. Is this not going against the Sikh faith by not keeping Singh or Kaur as the main Sure-name?

guru gobind singh ji wrote himself as " patshahi 10 " during writing the bani? I have this gutka sahib ji as per saying it is gutka of GGS ji but it has patshahi 10 written on it or it is not that gutka ... features of gutka sahib ji -- outlined pages with 2 purple/black lines.. beautifully handwritten bani especially dasam bani...with red coloured words. bani then outlined with thick yellow line... definitely quite old ... as said by researcher,it dates 1698 A.D.. now only thing that contradicts is the word " patshahi 10 " any opinions? ?? note -- I know patshahi 10 is written during compilation period ..or maybe not? discuss...

I came across this website which states that Sikh Gurus believe in Vedas. I cannot find the interpretations of the shabads in relation to it's comments. http://agniveer.com/sikh-gurus-and-vedas/ On the other hand I came across this booklet which says Sikh Gurus did not believe in Vedas. http://agniveer.com/sikh-gurus-and-vedas/ Can anyone explain what Guru Sahibaans take on Vedas was and why there are pro-Veda shabds and anti-Veda shabds in Gurbani? And how would you refute someone saying Sikh is a branch of Vedic dharam?

these are some of my fav poems ive written, related to sikhi. just thought id share them with everyone..hope you all enjoy them  Wonderful lord (waheguru) Darkness. Black, cold darkness. There’s no earth, moon, or stars. A single entity, our master, engulfed in the deepest of meditation. Genderless, formless, a light so pure. The whitest of white. The only true cure. True throughout the ages, in a single thought provoked explosion, created our universe, our world, our ocean. We play the game of life and death. A tune so beautifully composed by our grace. Tastes so deliciously perfect. A temptation to test us, those who fail and he neglect, fall further in self …

Kartar Singh jhabbar was a martyr made out of a *Edited*. he is the one who sent women to take control of akal takhat from baba kaladhari. He pierced Dasam Granth sahib with a spear and threw it out from window. Jhabbar role was always of violence and take credit for things that he did not do.
