The following is a translation of the oldest surviving rehat nama. The rehit is generally thought not to be written to the Bhai Nand Lal who wrote the famous Persian verses about Guru Gobind Singh because of the wide difference in quality of poetry between the two. The manuscript was discovered at Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar by Dr Jeevan Deol who is a Canadian born expert on Sikh Manuscripts (currently based in London). It has been dated to the 1718/1719 AD period which is virtually a decade after Dasmesh Pita's passing. The translation is by the notorious W H McLeod from Sikhs of the Khalsa. I have made some notes in brackets (as well as a single footnot…

Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh! Just wondering, how about if we start an online paath through voice chat in a chat-room?? This way we can all get laha of doing paath, and if anyone doesn't know how to read, they can also come and learn, from singhs/kaurs who can speak fluently. I'll set up a room, just want to know how many people will actually come, and join in? Bhul chuk maaf! Daljeet Singh Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh!

I shake myself vigorously My lips quiver The cold wind brushes by Nothing but my empathy on the line **Now someone write a few lines or a verse or even one line!! **

Hello, Is there a trick to getting a chunni to stay on your head? The few times I've tried to wear one at home it just constantly falls off. I don't want that to happen in gurdwara. Thanks!

http://www.<banned>.com/?p=3818 These Missionary/Kala Afghana/Guru Granth Da Khalsa Panth people need to stop being so anti Hindu. They are so anti-hindu that they stretch things so far and bend over backwards so much that it's like a comedy show going on. They need to get a checkup on their mental health. Don't they know that milk represents many different things? Milk represents purity and cleanliness. Milk comes from cows, which are peaceful animals for the most part. Milk is viewed as a valuable product, especially in India where poverty is almost everywhere. Especially in the olden days, I'm pretty sure it wasn't available to everyone. Milk is a sig…

I have always wonderes as to why have i never seen any woman granthies at Darbar Sahib . Then i came to know that they are simple not allowed to be . Given the great virtues of equality our Gurus gave bestowed upon us, i fail to understand why there is this discrimination at our most important Gurudwara . Why doesn't anyone do something about this?????????

Ok, first of all, don't take this thread too seriously.. I'm just wondering if Kaurs can wear skirts (i don't mean miniskirts but something of an appropriate length) or dresses. The only times i've seen sikh women wearing skirt (or lengha or whatever) is in some wedding pictures. Is there some unspoken rule that prohibits wearing skirts? And that we should only wear pants? Would wearing a skirt be seen as something un-sikh? Is there some history behind it? I was thinking that it might partly be because Kaurs are supposed to be warriors and it would be difficult to fight and ride a horse in a skirt. I've also heard at least sarees being clearly condemned because it's a…
